I had mouth sores with chemo and a burning feeling. It has been almost 4 months since chemo ended and my mouth is still sensitive to spicy, tomatoey and anything that has a little kick to it. I think chemo has stripped away any protection in my mouth. Any suggestions as to what I could do other than staying away from all spicey foods. I'm doing radiation now but I didn't think that would have an effect on my mouth.
ERS Thank you, that is the recipe they gave us during chemo. I wonder why yours took that long to show up. Mine came during chemo and won't leave me. I hear ya when you say chips and nachos tear up your mouth. Good luck and I hope you have better luck than me with it going away.
Hi! I am a couple years past my chemo, I did not have any mouth problems during that time. But somewhere along the line I began to get sores/scratches easily. For example, I could no longer eat any kind of chips or toasted breads because it would tear up my mouth. I stopped eating that and started regularly to using toothpaste for sensitive teeth and gums. When I got back to my dentist, he gave me a recipe for a rinse to soothe and heal.
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
Shake and rinse for 1 minute, spit out.
Rinse morning and night after brushing.
I’m naughty and just had a nacho plate, and I can feel already my mouth will need assistance!
Let us know how you do with that.
Thank you JodyDwyer I didn't know they had moisturizing toothpaste.
Please ask your oncologist about this. I use moisturizing toothpaste and mouth wash which helps.
