I just completed radiation last week and have an appointment with my medical oncologist. This will be the discussion of the estrogen blocking meds. What are the options that will be discussed and what side effects has anyone experienced? I'm a bit nervous about the next steps.
I didn't need chemo and I opted out of radiation and the meds after learning about all of the side effects was too much for me. I did lots of research and went the alternative route, changed my diet, sleeping routine, lots of walking, more meditation/relaxation, detoxification therapies, took vitamin, herbal supplements and natural estrogen inhibitors, de-stress as much as possible, etc. I was diagnosed with Stage I LCIS and had a lumpectomy and SLNB. I am now 1 year NED just had my check-up and scans this past Monday and next month is 1 year since my surgery. I decided I needed to try another way for quality of life because I don't have anyone that could help me if I can't function or work. My 2 aunts are elderly and my younger sister lives in Arizona and wouldn't be able to help me, she has her own issues. I just need to stay my course and keep paying close attention to the present to get to the future. My decision is not for everyone and it does not mean the recommended treatment plan that your doctors' recommend is wrong. You have to be your own advocate, whatever you decide has to be your own. Good luck!
I did not have radiation or chemo, but I've been on anastrozole for six months. All I've noticed are occasional very mild, very tolerable hot flashes. My arthritis is really bothering me (I've had it for several years) but I can't say the pills have made it any worse. I'm having hip replacement surgery in June, and hoping that will take care of a lot of my joint pain. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
