I’m 2 1/2 years into this journey and not sure what I should avoid in my diet. Are there any foods that should be avoided? Any liquids that should be avoided? Anything that should be eaten? Cut way back on red meat and not really a drinker. Doing a lower carb “diet”.
My health care provider encourages cancer survivors to eat a whole food plant-forward diet. Minimal animal products especially red meat, minimal oils, lots of beans, lots of fresh veggies and fruits. At first I thought I would have to spend half my life in the kitchen to eat this way, but I’ve gradually been finding shortcuts and things I like to eat that are quick and easy.
A little of everything in moderation - that's my motto. Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed! If you eat as wholesome as possible overall, get as much physical activity and good rest as you can, and enjoy your occasional indulgences - well that's all you can really do. Stressing over everything you eat & drink will likely cause more harm than the thing you're consuming. Enjoy your life! 💕🦄
I have been off of this site for some time now 2022 was such an extreme year for me that I needed to take a step back and stop thinking about all that happened I needed a break. As far as the best foods for cancer and what to avoid I got no guidance from any of my doctors I had to go find out for myself. I hired Carol Lourie who has a program for nonrecurrence designed for BC thrivers. I am doing a food log with her for accountability and that is helping me learn what I am doing right. This is helping me with the transition from not-so-good habits to better health habits.
Right. Sugar causes inflammation. Red meat should be eaten in moderation if at all. And soy is great. Not sure about the GMOs.
Check your local library- when I was first diagnosed I checked out an armful of books, then bought Dr. Kristi Funk, Breasts; the Owners Manual. Lots of good info in there. She advocates a plant based diet, I can't totally go there- but it did give me a lot of ideas about things to drop (and why) and things to add (and why). Then I made my changes one at a time, so it was easier to make them part of a habit/lifestyle instead of a diet. I am an anything in moderation kind of gal!! Wishing you all the best as you research and incorporate the changes that work for you! Hugs!
