Hi - you cannot start Scar treatment with the silicone sheets, like ScarAway until 6-8 weeks afterwards when you are fully healed. I just started using them last month and my BMX was in October. These were recommended to me.

You need to focus on post mastectomy comfort first. The hospital should give you a post mastectomy bra....compression is good to reduce fluid. Hopefully you already bought front zip sports bras to wear for a few weeks afterwards too. Soft button front shirts too - you won’t be able to do pull overs. You can minimize scaring later. It takes several months of wearing the sheets. They make a long version too that covers my entire incision.

I also had a double mastectomy with no reconstruction. The surgical bra is very much the same as a sports bra but with loops to hang drains from. The NP and my PT both said it is good to wear a sports bra for a bit afterwards to help reduce swelling and fluid. I wore one for 3-4 weeks or so even after my drains were out. It needs to be low enough to be below the scar line. The compression feels good - I slept in it too.

Athleta makes a post mastectomy bra called the Empower Bra. You can put their lightweight inserts in too if you want. I wore this a lot post surgery until I was healed enough to be fitted for prosthetics 6 weeks later. It was very comfy. Any front zip one will do. I’d get one if it were you. A lanyard is good to hang drains on too. I was afraid if of them falling out of the shirt pockets.

I also bought a post mastectomy pillow to keep my arms propped up and to sleep with. It was the best thing I bought! Links are below.

I got the little drain holders from amazon. A mesh one for the shower and a regular one. I wore button down tops so the drain hoses had a place to go thru to the pouch.

My hospital gave me nothing - they would have pinned my drain to my shirt if I hadn't of brought my camisole. That camisole is all I wore for the first few days (wash, repeat). I felt no need to wear any bra for the rest of my recovery but that's just me. The camisole I got zipped in the front and had pouches inside and was cotton and soft and comfy.

Terri - you're going to want all your clothes to be zip-front for a little while as putting things over your head might be tough. I personally wasn't allowed to shower until my drain was out so I sat in shallow bath (tied the drain around my neck) and did sponge baths, and washed my hair in the sink.
