I got diagnosed with dcis in August and they recommended a mastectomy. I had a my mastectomy in September as was told that because I did the mastectomy I didn’t need chemo or radiation. I am going through reconstruction though.

Second and sometimes third opinions are mandatory! Please read, goggle the drugs and treatment plans. My late husband was a most competent obgyn and I can assure you - they don’t know everything. Further, many of the new drug regimens are just that! Read and research!! It’s your body and your life!

I'm not sure what the treatment recommendation is going to be, but trying to prepare myself with some of the knowledge and choices of others. This is really helpful. It's all so new and complicated so I am determined to learn and prepare from hearing about others recommendations, options and choices. Thank YOU again for taking the time to care and responding. I had my mastectomy (one breast) on Nov 30th... no chemo or radiation.... and I'm pretty sure I'll refuse hormone therapy....I did not opt for reconstruction because I would have had to have 2 more surgeries and a high risk of infection. The surgeon said I had less than 1% chance of recurrence with no reconstruction...(I hope he's right).... hugs.....
