Is anyone experiencing shortness of breath with pleural effusion? The chest X-ray for my sister shows a moderate amount of fluid in the lung. The oncologist is holding off on draining it. Is there any way to alleviate the pain and shortness of breath short of draining the fluid ?
I had my lung drainages 3 times. Not painful and it stopped first round of chemo.
What is the oncologist waiting for? Did she/he give a reasonable response that made sense? Have her sit upright and conserve her energy as much as possible. Is she on oxygen? Is she getting home visits by an RN?
If your sister gets into any resp difficulties or distress call 911 and rush to an ER. I wish your sister and you well.

She had the fluid drained from both lungs this morning and pleurodesis performed. We have been in ER for the past 2 days. It took too long to the attention she needed.
