I’ve been having a hard time since I began AC to fall asleep at night, I never used to before. Is there anything that helps?
@A MyBCTeam Member, I have tried SO many things for sleep. So frustrating. Prior to my Mom's entrance to heaven, I could sleep like a baby most of the time. That was 16+ years ago. What is currently working for me is 600 mg of Gabapentin and 500 mg of Magnesium. I use Nature's Way since it is the only one tested by pharmacist's and approved! I am hoping to eliminate Gabapentin entirely. Next week I will try 300 mg, then the following week, none! Many of the side effects scare me long term. I also use aromatherapy, a salt lamp, soy candles just before bedtime and yoga for 30 mintues! I also have a humidifier by my side of the bed since I have indoor/outdoor allergies. Another thing that helps is turning down the heat and having it cooler in our bedroom. We also keep it very dark. Yesterday we ordered light filtering shades from Home Depot. Not only are they beautiful, but will allow me to remove the quilts that are hanging on our upstairs bedroom!!! Hope that helps. Paula
Hi Melsie, I have been hearing good things about melatonin. I have trouble sleeping/staying asleep. Many friends/family members suggested melatonin...years ago I tried it Once or twice and remember it worked well on those rare occasions. Haven't tried it since, but need to. I think my sleep trouble is related to overactive mind along with hormonal changes. I miss normal sleep.
I was having a lot of issues sleeping until my oncologist suggested I try Tylenol PM. I usually sleep on my right side but was having problems since my lumpectomies are on that side. My port is on my left side and I sometimes can FEEL it and it freaks me out. I am tired of sleeping on my back. So I gave in and really never thought much of it but it has been a lifesaver for me. I sleep sooooo good now. I still wake up at least 3 times to use the bathroom but I fall right back to sleep and am still sleeping when the alarm goes off. I also use a humidifier and this has help a lot since I have some sinus issues. We also have room darkening curtains. Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you.
Its the steroids to help with treatment/nausea. I cant sleep the day/night of my treatment. I have my trwatments on wednseday during the day and i dont sleep that night. I personally try to stay clear of sleep meds but that is always an option if you widh to ask your onc. It only really affects me that day; but some people struggle for several days. But i am sure stress is a factor with a lot of people as well.
@A MyBCTeam Member, sorry, no edit feature or spell check...I meant relaxing!
