I'm post surgery, currently on TCH, chemo. I had a skin-sparring bilateral July 2017. I get Herceptin weekly. Just wondering who has already been through this, did your cancer come back years later in any other area of your body? How are you doing? Did you do reconstruction? If yes, did you have any problems or complications? I had immediate reconstruction, but due to an infection.....reconstruction was removed. Is there a support group online for HER2 Positive or in person in the Los… read more

Wow, your story sounds close to mine. Had reconstructive surgery, but got an infection. Yup, that was me. But it was reattempted and everthing turned out fine. Have silicone implants. Initially I was on Tamoxifen, but after having tubes and ovaries removed, switched to Anastrozole. I’m doing fine. But other than the infection, I did really well through the treatments as I was able to continue to work full-time. I only had to take time off for the treatments or recovering from surgeries. I iced feet and fingers during Taxol infusions, and I avoided neuropathy. My hair grew back I think even thicker than what I had before, which is hard to believe as I already had thick, curly hair. It grew back with grey hair too. Let me know what questions you have.

I was diagnosed HER2 positive and went through taxol and herceptin treatments in 2014-15. I had a single mastectomy. I am also taking Anastrozole to help prevent reoccurrence. I see my oncologist once every 6 months now. Recently, I had symptoms of lower back pain and numbness on my left leg. I’ve been pain free up until this point. My doctor ordered a bone scan which came out clean. Then I had a MRI and that revealed a degenerative disc which was the cause of the numbness. I’m a walker so this was a surprise to me.
Now I’m in physical therapy trying to build up my core, something all of us need to do as we age.
So had a little scare but back to feeling positive about the future.

I am triple positive. I had chemo 1st, double mastectomy, radiation, hysterectomy, fat grafting, and am on slate to get expanders. I finished taking herceptin but now take Letrozole (chemo pill) and lucky me I get to take it for the next 10 years. It causes tendinitis which I've had, still have, done physical therapy but it's hanging around regardless. I had a hysterectomy because of my her 2+ situation so that I wouldn't have any hormones that could feed my cancer. Well unbeknownst to me your adrenal glands on your kidneys produce hormones. The Letrozole shuts that down. Try to make the most of it, stay positive and you'll be miles ahead of the game. When in doubt reach out, if you're sad find a reason to be glad, hold your baby's hand. Look at cancer like a journey, it's all about the experience we gain traveling, not the final destination. Try to find something you can take from having cancer and share it with others, maybe prevent them from doing something they don't need to, or advice to make them feel better. Helping others along your journey will make it well worth it in the end
