Surgery revealed an 8 cm DCIS tumor that contained several small spots of IDC inside the tumor. I also have a section of skin that only has a 1 mm margin. Doctor says my chances for recurrence are drastically reduced with radiation, but is radiation going to cause lots of problems with my implants? Is there anything I can do to reduce possibility of complications? Thanks so much!
I had BMX in June of last year followed with 5 months of chemo. I had silicone implant exchange in January and then did 6 weeks radiation. I had minor skin changes. No hardening or change in size. My PS did put my pectoral muscle behind my implant. He also used alloderm.
I would get a second opinion. I had 2.1 cm of invasive cancer in my breast and positive nodes. I had a lumpectomy , and chemo. Then I had BMX , more nodes removed. 2.5 cm of DCIS with 3 spots of invasions were found in that same breast . I had 2 opinions, one recommended rad, one did not. I decided not to do it because it was my left side and I was worried about my heart after having chemo.
Thank you so much. Hope your recovery is going well!
I had 28 sessions. My lymph nodes were clear even though my tumor was large but they wanted to radiate my nodes just in case,
Thank you Jwags. My size of my tumor was very large as well. How much radiation did you have?
