I'm having a double mastectomy and I want to do reconstruction--hopefully at the time of mastectomy. I'm looking for recommendations for the best procedure, e.g. most natural, least painful and least amount of time/recoveries.

I did a double masctomy with a DIEP flap. It was a 19 hour surgery but they look great. I really didn't feel bad more sore from the drains then anything. .

Sorry but I would feel if they do not want to show me pictures then it would send off little flags. My plastic surgeon had a photo album of his work and also some patients that you could talk to. If they are any good they should be happy to show you what they can do.

I also had a double mastectomy with expanders put in at the time of surgery. I was off work for 4 weeks. It took every bit of that to recover though. I've been going before every chemo to get the expanders filled. After I'm done w/chemo I will have the expanders replaced w/silicone implants. Recovery time for that surgery is about 2 weeks I think. I don't think I would do anything differently at this point:)
