I am going through a stage at the moment where as a very positive person prior to Cancer I now feel worthless and frightened of going back to work eventually. Is this normal? please help, tell me it is... ..
Please do not go there. I got to feeling that way because I was so helpless and I was in so much pain after my first surgery. Little did I know I had 8 more surgeries to date due to a lot of complications. I am not back to being out going and getting involved, but I am finding new ways to serve others and achieve my goals. I felt the same way about work and getting out of house, but every day gets better. You are worth so much and you will be a blessing to others if not already. Hang in there. You can do this!
It is normal to feel different after cancer. Breast cancer is a very personal type that can be emotionally difficult to deal with. Also, with the treatments that affect your hormones, there are true changes in your body that may change how you feel and react. Some fear of going back to your usual routine after is probably normal, too, because you are a different person in some ways and there's some adjusting. You have, what I call, "a new normal" to adjust to after breast cancer treatment.
The biggest thing here, is that you are not worthless. If anything, you are more fierce than before. Cancer is a beast. You faced it down and fought that beast. You are a warrior! Find strength in that and use that to build confidence in yourself and know that you can face anything now. Don't let fear of the unknown hold you back. You have already faced unknown and uncertainty and charged straight ahead. Is that fear of returning to work about what you feel other people will think or how they will see you? They will think that you are a strong, incredibly woman for what you have been through and they will see you as a fighter. Tap into the strength that has gotten you to this point and show the world that you cannot be taken down. YOU are a pink WARRIOR and a force to be reckoned with!! Don't ever forget that! Peace to you, my friend.
Please don't give up on yourself. You are worth more than you know and there are those out there who will need you one day. I felt that way for a while
@A MyBCTeam Member I can say I feel exactly the same just can't see a way back atm and I have the lethargy, my husband can't understand how some eves I can sleep 12 or more hours then other evenings I am awake for 3-4 hours in the
I feel the same way...miss work and not doing anything meaningful at the moment as my mind is still doing laps but my body can't. The lethargy on some days is so disheartening as I also have always been very positive. Always on cloud 9, not sure how I will find my way back.
