I may want to stay on this a while longer( only 3 months, every 3 weeks so far) but I'm going to be going for alternative treatments and don't know if that's a good idea. Has anyone taken Herceptin long term? What were your side effects? Thanks!
I have one Herceptin treatment left. I've been taking on them for a year which started with my first chemo session. I've had joint and muscle aches the whole time. Most mornings I can't hardly move and if I sit for to long and then stand up, its the same thing. In the beginning it was mostly my lower body but the aches/pains have now moved to my upper body as well. I've also had a MUGA heart scan every three months and the Herceptin did not effect my heart.
I just finished a full year on Herceptin. The only side effect I have had was joint pain. I also had a MUGA heart scan every three months. Herceptin did not effect my heart.
I had herceptin therapy throughout my chemotherapy and for a year after my last chemo. I did not experience any side effects at all.
I took Herceptin for a year with no visible side effects, was very easy, however, long term I think there may be heart damage as I needed to have an echocardiogram every three months while on it. Aside from that, I believe it is a very effective cancer fighter.
I've been on herceptin, perjeta and taxol initially every week for eight months and now only twice a month, without the taxol after 8 cycle. It's been than a year now and I don't feel any side effect from it although echocardiogram is necessary every 3 months. I will certainly be on herceptin and perjeta as long as it works for me.
