My clinical trial nurse said we only have one treatment for TNBC. That is dose dense AC followed by Taxol. I will also be getting Carboplatein as part of the clinical trial. I will also do 6 weeks of RADs. My nurse said this treatment cannot be repeated. So what happens if my cancer returns?

We all have that worry, no matter what our diagnosis was originally. The way I see it, my body has proved it can make cancer. My job now is to make it as difficult as possible for a repeat performance.

I used to worry like you - I don't so much now - no sign of cancer for a year and I was stage 2 aggressive TNBC - what happens if it comes back? We deal with it; when you think about it, what happens if you get hit by a bus? There are no guarantees, so in the meantime, you LIVE and enjoy live and tell cancer to take a hike!

Lordy, well, this is why the nurse is not in charge. There ARE other chemo treatments available, although limited and applied with great caution. The Oxford Journal is a great resource to corroborate that this is so, albeit a bit of a brain-squeeze in its intellectual delivery. I doubt your nurse is sifting medical journals and studies-and I LOVE the nurses almost more than the doc's. That's not her job, though. It's your onco's job to do that and if she's had your trust to treat the complexity of your trip-neg cancer, you can probably rest assured that she would pull something out of her hat for you, should the need arise.

Having said that, do your level best to get that horse back in front of your cart, sister soldier. I know how it is to have a comment blind-side and send you reeling--happens easily and frequently to the best of us at MBCT. you've done right by yourself to express yourself here. Anyhoo, stay in the moment, which IS a good one...you are in killer mode. So, kill away. Here's a quote to that end:

"I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
You shoot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won't fall

I am titanium"

Hi, @A MyBCTeam Member, I think your clinical trial nurse needs to get out more. I've had TNBC 3 different times and I am going on 26 years since my first diagnosis. In 1990 I had a left lumpectomy and 6 months of Methotrexate / Cytoxin / 5-FU. In 1993 I had a right lumpectomy and 6 months of Adriamycin / Cytoxin / 5-FU. In 2003 I had a BMX and 6 months of Methotrexate / Cytoxin / 5-FU. I never had Taxol /Carboplatin for breast cancer. In 2012 I had a preventive complete hysterectomy and 2wks later got a call that pathology had found cancer in my ovary that had spread to my Fallopian tube. Then I had Taxol / Carboplatin but was only able to take 3 treatments. I'm doing well, not about to die, and not the least bit worried about it. But I used to worry the same as you. If you have a recurrence someday, there are several drugs available for you. Don't stay with a Dr who doesn't know this and don't listen to anyone who says they don't work. You've done all that you can do. If there is a next time, you do all that you can do, again. Nothing is as bad as dose dense Adriamycin and you've already had that, so you're home free!!! As time goes by you'll worry less and less. I've been in remission now for 12 years from TNBC and 3 yrs from Ovarian cancer. There's every reason to resume your life and enjoy being alive!!! πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—
