I had fat grafting done at the same time as my final reconstruction. That was my 3rd surgery in 11 months and definitely the easiest recovery. The areas where they injected the fat were somewhat lumpy at first but my surgeon had me massage the areas throughout the day and that made a big difference, the lumpy areas were all smoothed out after a couple months. I'm very happy with the final result.

My surgery was 12 days ago so I am in the recovery period right now. I had the fat removed from my stomach, which I have heard is way easier than the hips. I was really worried I would have trouble sitting up and just be miserable but that didn't happen. I can't say that it's nothing but for me it's definitely doable. I don't know what the results would have been like if I didn't do the grafting but I am happy with the way it looks. I am still a little sore. I can wear button up shorts but for only part of the day. I was only on pain meds for 3 days following the surgery and I think of myself as a bit of a baby when it comes to pain. Good luck!

Some ladies have it done and have no trouble at all, and are quite happy with the outcome. All say that the donor site is very painful and takes a while to heal. And some don't like the outcome and say it wasn't worth it. So I guess it depends on how badly you need it and how confident you are in your plastic surgeon. Hi there! My experience with the fat graft was not good. I found it to be one of the more painful parts of the whole process with horrible bruising. But those go away. The most disappointing part for me was some of the fat cells that were transferred failed, and formed oil cysts, so I am left with numerous lumps that are even visible.
