I had a unilateral mastectomy and opted not to take Tamoxifen. I met with my oncologist and he provided me with all of the information on it. The statistics, the side effects, etc. He was neither for or against it, it was completely up to me. I felt the side effects out weighed the benefits, especially the risk of 1 in 40 chance of uterine cancer. Personal opinion, personal choice. Be sure you make an informed decision... Consult with another doctor or nurse practitioner, know the facts, and ask a lot of questions. Good luck, be strong!
Are you afraid that if your BC returns, you will regret that. I'm feeling pretty good with the decision not to take it. I think the awful side effects don't out weigh the benefits in my case. I just wasn't sure how others feel about Tamox
I quit it after 5 months. I hated the side effects and my oncologist agreed it was only offering me a 1% benefit so I could make the choice (I would argue that ANY woman can make the choice!!) you have to weigh the risks side effects and benefits for your particular case and that's not the same for everyone. I'm 7 1/2 years out!
I am not taking any more treatment after bilat mastectomy, recon and dense dose chemo. I am not willing to risk the side effects. It's a very personal decision, and one that should be made with your docs. I feel I have made the right decision for me. Good luck, and don't let anyone guilt you into anything, it is YOUR body, and your decision. No one else's business. :)
I had bm and was put on tamoxifin I took it a month and stopped hated it
