Had bilateral mastectomy on 12/21/15 and after 5 weeks started tightness feeling like rubber band around my chest. Decided to end the reconstruction and had expanders removed 01/29/16 and the tightness is better but still exist. Any suggestions on how to help it get better. And it's not in my head!!
Ask for the implants called "gummy bears."
The Botox injection into the chest muscle paralyzes the muscle for close to a year.
Do you want reconstruction? If so have your plastic surgeon look into the research done by Allen Gabriel, M.D. in Vancouver, Washington regarding injecting Botox into the chest muscle. This is how Dr. Gabriel did my reconstruction with tissue expanders and I didn't feel the tightness or pain from the fills into the expanders. Dr. Gabriel's office number is (Phone number can only be seen by the question and answer creators).
I am about four months out and I still have the tightness. It is definitely getting better and it doesn't stop me from doing anything, but it is kind of annoying. It is especially obvious to me when I swing my arm when walking, not as noticeable if I have my hand in my pocket. I assume it is muscles trying to reform after the trauma. Since it is on a gradual decline I am not worried about it, but I will be happy when it doesn't exist anymore. I do a lot of weight lifting and stretching and that seems to help.
I had the same after my bilateral mastectomy in April 2016. I opted for no reconstruction and the band tightening feeling was horrible so I went to PT (one who is certified in working with BC patients) and it was all received. Then the revision after radiation it is back again so I started PT this week.
