I have lots of pain in my pectoral muscle and even down my side (along my ribs from armpit to waist). I've had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. I had my last radiation treatment on Feb 9, 2015. It doesn't seem like I should be this sore after 5+ months.
I've been done with radiation for 18 months and the radiated area still is like a bad bruise. The skin looks fine but it's deep tissue soreness. My oncologist said I could have that the rest of my life.
The radiation which I am finishing next week definitely makes me very sore, very red, very rashy, itchy, burning and hurting. UGH!!1
I do the wall crawl every morning and two other arm stretches which help to keep the arm and chest from becoming "tight".
The stretching every day does help.
The radiation discomfort, well I'm hoping that my skin will heal. It's so burning right now under the breast in the crease, but using the Silvadene for that and on my chest and neck and back.
Just hope that any swelling will eventually dissipate and that all the tenderness will start to go away. Don't know for sure that it will, but hoping that it will . Still have numbness and tenderness from the surgery.
Sometimes when I have to put the Silvadene under the breast in the crease, I cringe from the discomfort but that seems to be the worst area even though the other areas are also itchy and burning and rashy, that crease being the most delicate is most painful, but they said that it will slowly heal and eventually I won't need the Silvadene .
Just want all of us to be strong and get well and stay well for many many many years to come.

I had to go to physical therapy and learn stretching exercises it really helped and at times I do them again her it seems to get tight and lifting my arm up tends to hurt
Have you tried massage? I went (still go) during treatment. It helps a lot. Our facility actually has free massage for the patients. NICE
After I had my lat flap my pec muscle started cramping up. I have to keep it stretched out and that helps. I lie on the floor, pit my hands on either side of my head and press my elbows to the floor. Another one is to put your forearm against the corner of a wall and step forward and lean into it. Hope this helps and you get some relief.
