I am meeting with my oncologist next week to discuss quitting Tamoxifen and I don't want to go on AIs either. I have had almost 2 years of Tamoxifen and the joint pain and insomnia are taking their toll on my quality of life. I was stage I, no lymph node involvement, BMX without reconstruction, combined Oncotype for both tumors is 16
At 52, my periods have hopefully stopped (lmp was 1/25/15)
I am willing to have a bilateral oophorectomy/hysterectomy if it means I don't have to go on meds… read more

An update: I have my second reconstruction surgery scheduled in a week and a half, so I went off tamoxifen a week and a half ago to give myself a really good test of how I feel without the drug in my system. My sleep is better; I have a libido again; and my brain is functioning so much better. Now I also started taking Vitamin D at the same time, so I'm going to go back on the tamoxifen in a couple of weeks and see if those symptoms return. I'm exercising every day, eating well most of the time, taking low-dose aspirin for the cancer reducing properties, along with some curcumin. And I'm keeping stress down - a very important factor in cancer growth. While an oncologist may say I'm doing "nothing" if I'm not on tamoxifen, I beg to differ!

I was stage 2a, Her2+, grade 3, ER+/pr+. I quit Tamixifen after 5 months. I have an annual physical. That's all. I am 6 1/2 years out. I did have hip pain a couple years ago and they did an MRI. Needed PT. No mets to hip thankfully!!

So, Oncology appointment tomorrow. 8 months off Femara and not confessing. I've never felt better. Good new is this Onco is going to lose me anyway because I'm moving out of state. Personal choice and I'm happy I can make this since my onco score was so low.

I'm going to look back with no regrets. Ask me in 5 years if I feel the same way.

I have stumbled upon some great resources in my own search for alternatives. Happy to talk with you and share, if you're interested. (Not selling anything!) [[email: [[email: (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators)

I wasn't given the oncotest. Didn't know there was a test & when I discovered it I was told it was too late to take it & I had already made the decision not to medicate. So, I guess time will tell for me. One thing I know about oncologists, they are all about numbers & percentages. I was diagnosed with stage 1a, triple +'s, grade 3. 1st oncologist gave me 92-93% of no recurrence so the 1-2% upgrade with the 5 year drug & the nasty side effects, not worth it to me.
