I did well on Tamoxifen following surgery in 2013, but it flipped me into menopause and my doctor switched me to Arimidex in March 2015 since I'd gone 12 months without a period. I took it for approximately 4 weeks and started noticing severe mood swings (and I mean, VERY severe, like suicidal thoughts, hopelessness, crying jags), and am the textbook "glass half full" kinda gal. I had no side effects at all with Tamoxifen, but every single one of the bad side effects with Arimidex, both… read more

I am on the 10 year tamoxifen plan, my MO wanted me to change but I have enough joint pain that they can't figure out. I say it is from tamoxifen and permanent
I have tried not taking but the pain doesn't go away. I one take it 3 days a week, I was on the 5 year plan but of course last year was told it is 10 now. I know the research is out there for 7 but not really 10. My MO couldn't prove it to me.

Hi there: Tamoxifen put me into menopause immediately. Last period was Jan 2014, started Tamoxife in Feb 2014 and haven't had a period since. I had no side effect with the Tamoxifen, but just couldn't tolerate Arimidex. I'm waiting for my doctor to call with an alternative, but in the meantime, she said it was ok to continue with tamoxifen.

I was on tamoxifen last year for about 6 months. I had terrible mood swings so switched to Armidex. I was on armidex for 3 or 4 months. It gave me knee and leg pain. I had to go off of it due to vaginal bleeding. Everything is fine, but had to have ultra sound and D&C. Anyway, I saw my onc last week and told her no leg or knee pain while off armidex so she has me trying Letrozle now. I have only been on it 4 days so I will see what happens.

This scares me. I start Arimidex this week. I worry especially about the mood swings since I lean toward depression anyway. Did the mood swings start right away?
