It has been 5 months after my last radiation. My doctors do not do blood tests or scans for any Cancer recurrence. I asked the doctor about scan. They say it is not necessary because my Cancer is gone. The doctors say scans are unnecessary because of amount of radiation and cost. They do not even give me blood tests. I've not had any scans but, blood work every 3 months with cea and ca 15-3 levels
My Onc does not do scans unless there are symptoms to warrant it because of the extra radiation involved. That is pretty much the standard now. However he does do blood work which includes the tumor markers.
I got a bone scan, & regular blood tests.
I did not go through scans after treatment, but go in for regular blood tests to check my levels because of the Tamoxifen.
I would ask them again for at least tumor marker test every so often. Need a baseline test of some kind. Regular blood tests should be kinda routine I think. May want consider a follow up/2nd opinion from another oncologist too.
