I had read all the research and was also scared about taking it. But don't believe everything you read. I've been on Tamoxifen for 17 months; I was pleasantly surprised that it is not that bad. The side effects are manageable and I feel more secure that I am preventing recurrence.
I have some OCCASIONAL MINOR aches and pains and stiffness in my knees and hips when I wake up or get up after sitting a long time. As soon as I start to move around, they go away--it's like the tin man needing the oil can....Movement is the oil.
The other common side effect are hot flashes, but I don't get them! Not everyone does.
I did experience mood swings and irritability, so my onco prescribed Effexor (which also helps with hot flashes). It has "leveled me out" and I am so much happier. I just float along and nothing really stresses me out these days.
Everyone is different in how they respond to treatments and drugs. Try it. See how you do. You may be just fine. If you have issues with side effects, talk to your onco and try to manage them. It's worth the peace of mind.
I took it for 5 years and starting year five of Femara. I can't lose any weight, and have issues of heavy sweating and hot flashes
I have been taking it for 8 months and haven't had any hot flashes or night sweats. I have some vaginal discharge but if anything, that's a good thing for my sex life!
Started Tamoxifen about ten days ago and I too was VERY reluctant to begin. No issues but one thing that has lessened in the past couple weeks are hot flashes! I prob just jinx myself saying that :(
I've been on it for a year with no side effects
