I had a doll custom made for my 5 year old that has remove able hair and a cap. She brings it with her every where we go.
I too was so nervous about how it would affect my 2 year old daughter. It has been the hardest part for me so far. She is very smart and vocal about how she feels. I ended up bringing her with me to get my hair cut short in a pixie cut and to get my wig. The biggest thing she didn't like was seeing me get my hair cut.... But that was because she has never seen a hair cut before. My mom was also with me at my appointment and ahe was able to show my daughter all the other wigs around the shop and the owner of the shop even have her a little pink hair extension to clip in her hair ( which she loved). Though she still doesn't really like if I'm not wearing a hat, scarf or wig she has gotten used to it. She likes to wear hats like momma and also thinks my wig is pretty:) I know there are books out there to read with kids, not sure how old yours are? Good luck!
I know the worry that comes with this diagnosis AND a little one, @A MyBCTeam Member. I have a very observant three-year-old who was the hardest part of all this for me. I spent considerable time worrying about how he'd handle my dramatic change in appearance. Then we bit the bullet and shaved it while he ran around the backyard. He commented a few times that he didn't like my "grass hair" as much, then he simply forgot to notice it. You hear how resilient kids are, but they really do take our cues. You will get through this, friend!
@A MyBCTeam Member Good morning pretty lady!! Hope you are feeling good! I told my 4 yr old that "mommy had a sickness in my booboos" because that is what she called my breasts as a baby. " I have to take the yucky medicine which will make me lose my hair, but I will have it back for Christmas!" Small children dont know about the timeline. So I chose a holiday and she really could understand when she would see my hair again. And let me tell you it is THICKER this time around!! xoxo
