I shaved my hair last Tuesday on day 14 after first chemo. Day 14 is when I first started seeing hair loss. Hair loss has been gradual each day, until today (day 20 after chemo). I had my hair dresser shave my hair into a buzz to try to better control the situation. I'm glad I did it. Would definitely do it again.
@A MyBCTeam Member YES YES YES!! Do it. I actually had a "boy cut" at my husbands barber shop (one of the BEST haircuts I ever had!!) Loved that Do for about 4 weeks. Then with my second treatment of Chemo the hair started coming out. My husband buzzed it and it looked AWESOME!! So much better for little pieces to come out. For someone with very long hair, I would think it would be very emotional.
SO my suggestion is to BUZZ AWAY and liberate yourself!!
I had very long hair that I never did much with but throw into a bun or ponytail. Prior to chemo, my mom cut it into a bob and we donated what I could. At first, losing what was left was much, much harder than I ever imagined. Then shedding like a dog became more annoying than devastating. Then one Sunday on our back deck, my husband sheared me like a sheep while our 3-year-old ran around trying to catch the dandelion-like strands. It really was liberating.
One thing I wouldn't have expected: my hair never fully fell out. Through six rounds, I had what was like feathery fluff that slowly grew into the inch-plus fluff I now have. Like @A MyBCTeam Member, knowing that, I may have simply cut it shorter to see what would've happened. Good luck to you!
I shave my head for my 55th birthday!! Hair was starting to fall out, and I just "helped" it along!!! Wore hats at first, now just go natural!!!
As you can see in my profile picture, my hair was VERY long...all the way down my back! I was FINALLY happy with it and got it to the perfect length and style etc. Then cancer decided to show up! I cut it, before treatment even started, in to a short A-line bob! I loved it, but I stilled ached for the loss of my hair. I think I finally shaved it all off just after my second treatment of AC. So 14 days after starting chemo, I was shedding like crazy and that was annoying and just all over the place! Looking back, I think I would have gotten it cut initially into a pixie cut and then waited to see how it progressed from there, then shaved.
