For those of you that have had expander-implant surgery, did you have to wait at
least 6 months after your mastectomy to have the exchange surgery? My plastic surgeon said that studies have shown it is best to wait at least 6 months due to scar tissue. My fills are complete but my 6 months will not be until January 22nd.
My PS said the same. At least 3 mon but he prefers 6 months also. So I guess thats late spring for me! uggg :(
My PS just said 6-8 weeks after the last fill. Mine exchange is coming up this Friday, almost exactly 5 months from the mastectomy.
I had radiation also and had to wait 6 months before I got my implants
After my BMX, the plan was to do my exchange 3 months after that. I just had BMX on 8/28/14. However, when we found out that I needed radiation, the radiation oncologist and the PS both agreed to do exchange first and get the implants in. So I did my exchange on 10/14/14 which was 6 weeks and change after BMX. I haven't started radiation yet, but hopefully this week. anyway, all that to say, I am doing just fine and healing well with only 6 weeks between the two surgeries. Again, it was only rushed because of the raditaion.
My PS said the same thing.
