I had a lumpectomy and radiation for IDC. I had a sentinel node biopsy which was negative for any breast cancer. However, I was diagnosed with a second cancer, small lymphocytic lymphoma/chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It is early stage and low grade. I have big concerns because the hormone therapy drugs have side effects similar to some of the symptoms of this cancer. I already have high cholesterol (over 400 if not treated), major joint pain and arthritis, and serious varicose veins. I… read more

I have a congenital heart condition. I know some decisions were made dealing with having breast cancer and the heart condition. But I had great doctors and they really worked together to make sure I had the best care. I had a single mastectomy and I chose not to have reconstruction ... this was the best for me.

Just to help you make an educated decision, i hope you know how much your nutritional intake can help /effect inflammation in your body. Arthritis/joint pain, cholesterol...and many other things. Side effects of anastrazole do include secondary cancers, so keep that in mind and ask what the difference in recurrence rate is for your age/ specific cancer with and without it. If your oncologist doesn't know the answer ask that they please find out. I read medical journals and found my own answers. It matters! If ever you want to discuss nutrition eating to beat cancer I'd be happy to email. [[email: [[email: (Email address can only be seen by the question and answer creators) XO

Thank you. I have been doing the Arimidex since September. I have some definite side effects, but what I decided was that since my chance of recurrence isn't really high, I had a complete hysterectomy 13 years ago and still got estrogen drive cancer, plus I have a lymphoma that adds to the risk of other cancers, breast cancer being close to the top of the list, that I was going to give them a serious try. I know Tamoxifen can add to the risk of cancer in the ovaries or uterus. I'm not sure about the Arimidex. I don't have those parts anyway. I'm not convinced I'll take it the whole 5 years. I have worked on a diet that will help with inflammation. And, I have managed to lose 25 pounds since the first of the year, even on the Arimidex.

Thank you for your answer. I am really nervous about the side effects of the hormone therapy, moreso because of the sll/cll.
