I had radiation with expanders then my implants were put in seven months after I completed radiation. My PS absolutely hates the radiated skin as it does do some damage. I had a wound that opened up after radiation and wouldn't close on it's own or with tape, glue or stitches so we went back into surgery and closed it up that way. Don't get discouraged, it takes time and patience on both your part and your PS. The six months goes by pretty fast and you need it to let your tissue heel from the radiation.

No expanders, I had radiation every day for two months it wasn't to bad until it got down to the last week. The radiation burnt my skin raw I was in so much pain, but with in a week it got a lot better. I still get a stinging sensation on that area. My radiation was completed on Febuary 23rd 2017 You can do this.

I had a BMX in June of 2016 with chest expanders. I then did 6 months of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation. I am having my implants put in on Aug 1. I met with my PS today for a pre surgery appt. He told me the challenge is the incision healing on the radiated side because after radiation your blood vessels don't always work as well. So healing can be difficult. I asked what happens if they don't heal and he said we will cross that bridge if it happens. He then explained I would have to have another surgery and do a LAT flap procedure where they move a muscule from your back under your breast. He said there is no way to know exactly how radiated skin would work or not. During radiation my chest expanders actually helped protect some of my other organs. I had no lymph node involvement but my margins were under 1 cm and my tumor size was very large, 7.1. My RO left it up to me ti decide if I wanted radiation or not. I am TN and did my research and felt it did add another layer of protection against reoccurence.

Hi, sorry you are going thru this but here we are!! I had to had a bilateral mastectomy and tissue expanders done in Jan 2015 then I went thru 6 rounds of chemo, then I had 28 rounds of radiation treatment. Everything seemed good until about 2 months after radiation, I developed sores on my radiated breast that made it where I had to have the expander removed. But I will tell you I am doing good now.....I had to a my boob rebuilt from skin and tissue from my back but it is possible. The PS called it an inflammation, but she did treat me with a broad spectrum antibiotic in case it was infected as well. I guess the answer to your question is Yes. But I'm sure it doesn't happen to every woman as we're all different. It just did for me.
