Second month on Anastrozole (generic Arimidex)and so far not much at all - occasional hot flashes, little joint pain. Drink lots of water and exercise the joints.
The worst bone pain ever. For two years.
Took it for 8 months. In the beginning very few side effects. No hot flashes or hair loss. Then at month 4 osteoporosis diagnosed (not previously diagnosed so thought to be from arimidex). Had first prolia shot. By month 6 unbearable joint pain, bone pain, neuropathy, depression, crying all the time for no reason, weight gain. Finally stopped it a week and a half ago & pain is somewhat subsiding. If I continue to improve how I feel I will discuss with oncologist at next appointment in October.
I am 62 years old. IDC stage 1, lumpectomy & radiation only. Followed by arimidex which was supposed to have lasted for 5 years.
one month today, none so far. yeah.
I agree pretty much with HolliB. My side affects started with hot flashes and thinning hair and over time progressed to joint pain, bone pain, neuropathy and balance issues. I stopped taking it after 4+ years. That was 6 weeks ago and hope I will be as lucky as HolliB that the side affects will go away. So far they have not but perhaps a little less with joint pain. Everyone is different and some have not had any bad side affects. May you be one of them.
