Wondering what other pre-menopausal women did for anti-hormone therapy who are estrogen positive besides taking tamoxifen, since I had bad side effects before with it?
I quit Tamoxifen after 5 months. And the biggest contributor to my er pr + cancer was stopped the day I was diagnosed and that was birth control pills. Here I am 5 1/2 years later! Still premenopausal and still cancer free!
I had horrible depression from tamoxifen and have been taken off it. I am premenopausal (at 55, joy) and am going to have my ovaries surgically removed in a few months which my oncologist says is somewhat prophylactic in itself. Then she will start me on one of the other estrogen inhibitors. I'm afraid I will have the same reaction. But i f you want children, i'm afraid this answer won't be of any help.
Thank u for that. I am already crazed because my hormones were stopped when I was dx with BC. I do not intend to take any hormone blockers that will undoubtedly make me more miserable. I also learned from this site that the SE are permanent and can go beyond moodiness including joint pain and stiffness and being overall miserable. I wii discuss with my dr before final decision.
My alternative MD recommended I stop eating all dairy, since all lactating mammals exude estrogen, and mammalian estrogen is mammalian estrogen (human or cow or goat etc.) By stopping/reducing dairy, one is theoretically reducing one's overall estrogen load. Likewise she suggested no soy. Soy estrogen (phytoestrogens) are different than mammalian estrogen, but she said there is not adequate research to say whether or not they contribute to estrogen levels in humans--and until we know, why not be careful? So I don't eat dairy or soy except once in a rare while, such as at a friend's home for a dinner party where they are part of the meal. And of course I'm not a doctor, either! I made the decision not to take aromatase inhibitors post-cancer, due to the potential side effects, especially some for which I already have risk.
