My husband has Lymphoma was in remission but not checked since a year ago' And I have the breast cancer not checked since a year ago nor am I no longer on my Tamfoxin I took it for about 1 year. @A MyBCTeam Member Call the American Cancer Society. They should be able to direct you to financial programs and treatment.
I was an insurance biller. Hospitals have to treat you when you come through ER, but they can bill you for services if your insurance doesn't cover. If you go in through a private hospital, they can stabilize and transfer you. If you call an ambulance, they will provide the service, and bill you if your insurance doesn't cover. Most people have issues with deductibles and copays and denials. They can be brutal. Most hospitals will try to get you on some government plan, if your eligible. Look into teaching hospitals/universities. The cap for Medi-caid is pretty low, but if there's only a $300 difference between qualifying and not, it sounds like someone isn't really trying hard enough. If you're both on disability, you could qualify for Medicare as well. Talk to a knowledgeable social worker, don't take the first answer. And like above, charitable organizations, American cancer society, etc. no one with cancer should go untreated in this country!
I think you have a good legal case against them, denying you treatment is illegal. Check and see if there is a Legal Aid office where you are at and check into getting an attorney to help you.
Get in contact with the American Cancer Society to find out if there are any financial assistance programs for you and your husband. Also reach out to local charities and churches in your area-just a few ideas of places to start. I hate to think that people can't get help with cancer because of a lack of money. I have a cousin who was a teenager who had terrible headaches and tests showed she had a tumor behind her eye. She and I received a cancer diagnosis in the same month and we were both declared cancer free the same month in 2011.
