DCSI; Nodes clear; Double MX (nipple/skin sparing) w/reconstruction ... Do I really need an oncologist?

Half of me thinks that I don't because, after all, everything was removed- right? Well, almost everything! But then again, the more I wonder & worry about reoccurance the more I think that I should have one for my overall and long term health. I don't know why I am worrying about this now; maybe because my 1 year 'anniversary' is approaching. Ugh!!!!

I actually was nervous going to my appts with my oncologist but like Jill says they are always on top of what is going on In the world of cancer. When my five years anniversary came and I didn't have to see my dr for a year instead of every four months, I actually freaked out a little bit! He was my savior and now he is pushing me away? LOL. I think u should continue visits with your oncologist!

I was sent originally 19 years ago to an ONC because I was 33 and it was very unusual back then for younger women to have BC.. not the case anymore unfortunately. It's been 7 years since my occurrence and the only reason I am still going is for the pills every 6 months as the Government pays for them so I get a 6 month supply. I'm hoping that he will give me a year supply so I don't have to go in as often. The only thing he does is an exam and asks me how I'm doing, I don't get blood tests anymore so it's not like he is going to tell me bad news but I am always nervous going to see him! Do what ever you need to do to feel comfortable and empowered!

You already know the answer! I don't like going either but he's is always on top of the latest treatments and meds, I am now on new meds and doing great.. I just had to change my apt and only time soon that I could see him was on my B Day... talk about ugh!! But then I snapped out of it and looked at it another way... I am bringing him a thank you card that day because I am having one of many more B Days thanks in part to him and the latest information and procedures! So go for it, besides if you don't like the onc then you can always stop going! Jill

So sorry to hear of your reoccurrence!! You see an oncologist every 3 months? I've never even had one and it's been a year. Is that just because I was diagnosised DCIS? And/or caught this before it had spread to my nodes? Or because I had a BMX there's no need now?! Or have I actually needed one this whole time?

Please tell me someone has direction for me...

Thanks for your help ladies. I feel so lost!

My surgeon and plastics office is so far away. I haven't even seen since my exchange. I'm almost 1 year from diagnosis and will need to find a new OBGYN. My PCP knows nothing ... Where do I even start?!
