I think that occurrences are very strictly individual. I was triple negative. I was diagnosed with triple negative Stage II Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with Necrosis. No lymph node involvement. I had chemo, lumpectomy, radiation, no pills afterward . This December I will be 6 years cancer free. I've had no problems at all. Have you been to http://www.tnbcfoundation.org/ or http://www.bcna.org.au/about-breast-cancer/trip... Ask your doctor to run a prognosticating calculator on your specific case. Each is different with different outcomes depending on tumor size lymph node involvement surgery type and grade. Outcomes will vary so you need to ask him or her this for a better understanding if your own situation.

I am a triple negative cancer survivor. My doctor, told me that if I had no recurrence in the first five years the rate of recurrence is dramatically dropped.

So, 3 1/2 years out is great. Congratulations on being clear this long.

I am now 8 years out and still have the thought and worry of recurrence. It does lesser but, I believe it will always be with me.

If you have questions about recurrence and other fears. Talk with your Doctor, they know your medical history. And, don't let them scare you, ask more questions

Hi Lisa, I to am triple negative BC. I am er/pr/her-2 negative. Grade 3. I also had 3 lymps removed. I had a wonderful doc that assigned me to a study. They did chemo first then surgery then rad. The chemo first was a good thing as it shrunk my tumor small enough that I only had to do a lumpectomy (orig plan was a mastectomy). He indicated to me that the chance of recurrence in 10 yrs is more than 60 percent. Also said tn tends to recur within 3 to 5 yrs. I think it all depends on the individual person and all the facts doc has. I am about a year and half out from treatment. I know TNBC isn't a real common form of BC but hey WE are ALL fighters and we will kick this to the curb.

Lisa, I am triple negative as well. Really you were told it was "expected"? How disturbing they would say that. While yes, the chances of recurrence during the first 24 months is greater with us triple negative gals, its not given.
