Today I have appt with my PS for pre-op to replace expanders with implants. I am so nervous and excited. What questions should I be asking?
I just had the exchange surgery. And I'm thrilled it is over. I was excited, but still anxious.
The implants are more comfortable than the expanders. Questions you should ask: What size do you want to be? How much did they expand you, so you can have the size you want to be? If you kept your nipples ask about symmetry and the best implants to facilitate symmetry. You also can ask about the difference between saline and silicone--which one is right for you? Round or tear shape size and which one is best for your body?
Learn about recovery requirements. This surgery is a little easier than the BMX, but it's not a walk in the park either. There is a healing process--I'm posting my experience on my activity page, to provide realistic expectations.
If you didn't keep your nipples, then ask about nipple reconstruction.
I'd ask for an honest description of what you can expect your new body to look and feel like. Nobody ever prepared me for what this is like. It is not a new breast - that's for sure, and unlike some, I do not "love them". They definitely are more comfortable but mine have never stopped the frequent spasming even in 4 years and never "dropped" into natural positioning as my surgeon thought they would. I expected way too much and so I think if someone had prepared me I might have had more realistic expectations.
Honestly, you should be super excited. The difference is amazing! I would ask, how long the recovery is? Is she going over your old scars? Will it be one day in one day out (usually is)? Will you have drains (I know most women do not)? How soon can you resume physical activity (meaning like high impact not walking around)? It was one of the easiest surgeries. I was sleeping on my side a few days afterward. It was insane the difference with regards to how squishy my implants were versus the expanders. I love them.
@A MyBCTeam Member I haven't gotten to this point yet but I'm wondering if you'd be more happy with your results if you had fat contouring? My PS said if I didn't like the way the implants sloped off my chest wall he could take belly fat and put on tops and sides of implant to give it a more natural shape-- I'm wondering if that would help your case.
Going to implants from expanders is a time to party! I second all the questions to ask that @A MyBCTeam Member stated.
