Anyone have to have an MRI follow up on post lumpectomy scar tissue ? I am 5 years out and the radiologist thinks the area is b9 and due to scar tissue....having breast MRI to check as the Ultrasound was also clear. Wondering if anyone has any experience. Of course I always think "its baaaack"
Hi, yes, some cancers that are smaller than 5mm are hard to detect and Invasive Lobular as well and Inflammatory. I still take great confidence that with regular screening if hard to detect, at least they can notice changes. That is important. Still better than mammo! And yes,,keep me posted too. :)
Annual physical in Feb, mammo in March came back no worries, then I had genetic testing done and am BRCA2+ so my family doctor wanted to do a breast MRI and ultrasound right away and I said let's wait till it's 6 months. He said no, now, so ultrasound showed nothing, but breast MRI came back with spots on both breasts. I had scar tissue from a lumpectomy 20 years ago and I too had doubts. But biopsies were done and that lump on my right side had become Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, less than the size where they get worried, like a pencil eraser. When I went to the oncologist, he wanted to start me on chemo right then and there because of the BRCA2+. Too late that day, but at 9AM the next day I started my journey I am still on (bilateral mastectomy and chemo then reconstruction). My point is.. know your body, get 2nd and 3rd opinions if you need to, and follow your heart and mind because you, and only you know best. It's just that my story is a bit different than what's been written already and hopefully it will help lead you to a decision. God bless and big HUGS

@A MyBCTeam Member good!!! B9 is good!!!!! Radiation does a number on the boob! In my MRI it was noted the shrinking of my breast ... Stuff goes on in the rads boob for years! As long as it's b9!!! Woot!! Hugs!!!!
GREAT NEWS, @Leanna Mak! My biopsy can back as fat necrosis with associated reactive fibrosis and non-specific mild chronic inflammation. In other words, NOTHING to worry about, NORMAL! I am glad I had it excised as the swelling and discomfort I was having in my 'breast' is GONE! Apparently, it was sort of 'rejecting' a little something :-)
