Has anyone had pain near their incision site a few months after completing lumpectomy and radiation?? I had my surgery in April and completed my radiation in June. For the past couple of weeks I have been having stinging pains near my incision.
5 years out of lumpectomy and rads and still get pains.
Me too - nerve endings that were cut during my 1st lumpectomy were busy finding their way home.
yes, I'am still feeling them, I asked my doctor and she told me that it was normal and that eventually everything will go to normal.
I am 11 months post lumpectomy, removal of two lymph nodes and radiation and I have pain, but it gets better every day. The frist three months post surgery were the worst and I feared it would never go away. I kept ice packs on my breast almost 24/7 for 3 months to just try and numb it. Pain medication did not touch the type of pain I had, so my doctor said it was neuropathic (nerve) pain. I was also having some depression/anxiety issues so my doctor prescribed Cymbalta as it is a neuropathic and depression medication. I also used alprazolam for the anxiety (this was like a miracle drug for the anxiety). I only took the Cymbalta for 4 months and then switched to Sertraline 50 mg because my neuropathic pain had subsided and I did not feel I needed the neuropathic medication any more. Plus Cymbalta was costing me $100/month and the Sertraline is $10/month. I never had depression issues prior to my breast cancer diagnosis and now I have no desire to stop the Sertraline because I am doing so well, but we'll see. Anyway, long story short, thankfully the pain from the surgery is getting better and is very tolerable. Hopefully some day it will be gone completely, but if not, I can definitely live with it. Hugs to all.
I had sharp pains in the area about a month after finishing treatment. I had 6 booster treatments limited to the incision site at the very end, so I chalked it up to that. The pains seem now to have gone away. Hope they don't come back. Have you told your radiologist? I think that would be a good idea.
Take care!
