I'm 7 months post chemo. My hair is growing out and not sure when is a good time to get a trim. I've already trimmed it once but I know I can't keep getting it cut then I'll never have a long hair again! Any advice on how you "grow out" of this odd phase of your hair is appreciated!

I am 1 year post chemo...had only one train the whole time to shape it up...dye it every 6 weeks, she always asks " are we cutting today" I give the old " nope!" Sorry took me a year to grow this hair, not cutting it! :)

@A MyBCTeam Member, I had a trim about two months ago, and it was hard to see my hair on the floor! I had waited so long to grow my hair back and now I was cutting it! I'm like you, I want my hair back like it used to be... Who cares about boobs? Hahaha!

I've kept my hair short, but my husband is hoping I'll choose to grow it back out again (soon). I keep telling him to wait until 5 years :) I'm a person that is still mildly supersticious and I'm not sure I could handle growing it out only to be DX'd again and have to shave it all off.. AGAIN!

Anywho, that's my craziness speaking :)

Since I go see my sylist every 4-6 weeks for my short cut, we HAVE had conversations on "if I wanted to grow it out...". She recommended continuing to come in every 6 weeks to get the sides and back trimmed up while letting the top grow with minimal trimming. This avoids the mullet look and keeps it looking pretty styled while it grows.

So maybe on your next trip to the salon, discuss it with your stylist. See what his/her recommendation is on how to keep it looking good.

I had very long before chemo too so I longed for it to be long again. Just ask for them to "tip" the ends if and when you go in. Just to give it a little shape. The hardest is the side burns. Ugh. It took me about 4 years and everyone says just leave it shoulder length cuz it's flattering. I just want to still be able to pull it up into ponytail. Be patient! At least it, unlike boobs, grows back. Now, 5 years later, that fact stares at me back in the mirror and I am almost embarrassed I stressed so much about my hair for as long as I did.

June 11 will be my 8 month post chemo anniversary. I had my first trim about 2 months ago. My stylist told me it would grow quicker if I kept the dead ends trimmed so I guess I'm due for another trim. I just told her to take the bare minimum - only what absolutely needed to go to keep it healthy. I can't wait for my hair to get longer. I try not to dwell on such a superficial item, but it does seem that my hair is trigger for me. I could care less about my chest, I just want my hair! LOL!
