I am happy with the decision I made. I wouldn't be able to live with the fear of recurrance (since several women in my family have died of cancer). So I know I did the right decision.

And, generally speaking, my foobs are awesome. My plastic surgeon did a GREAT job. Particularly when they are in clothing, they look amazing.

However, when the bra comes off... well, they look like I had a mastectomy. There are scars, rippling of the implants and other small imperfections. Yes, I realize any other expectation is silly, but it takes a little while to come to terms with the fact that your boobs will never ever look the same. And they will never feel the same (mine are mostly numb).

I've accepted my foobs. I like them about 80% of the time. I can't wait to finally get my nipple tattoos (if I could find the time). And generally I'm pretty confident about my body, regardless of what is on my chest.

So I guess my point with all this is to say I'm happy with my choice. I'm mostly happy with my results. But I'd also be happy with my body if I had no boobs. I think your general happiness and satisfaction with the physical outcome is 75% how great your surgeon is and 25% your ability to embrace and accept the change to your body.

First off, I would like to say that whatever decision you make you need to make for you and you alone. I had a bilateral mastectomy with tissue expander reconstruction. I had several reasons for my decision. 1. I was 23 when diagnosed so looking over my shoulder for the next however many years wasn't gonna happen. 2. I had small breasts to begin with so I felt that it made sense to get rid of both and get bigger boobs lol. I just had my implant exchange yesterday and they feel great! Still healing and they haven't fully settled but I have a feeling I'll b3 satisfied :)

I had a bilateral with immediate reconstruction with a tram flap. I love the results. My breast feel real to me and to the touch of others, ( I go with the if you want to feel them go ahead attitude cause they are amazing) I also have complete feeling in both breast thanks to my AMAZING plastic surgeon. Good luck with what ever decision you make...go with your gut...it won't steer you wrong xoxo

I also had a lumpectomy and then chose to have a BMX. My doctors thought it was overkill, but I was the one who needed to sleep at night. So I did a lot of research and spoke with women who had different forms of reconstruction, and in the end decided to have a GAP/DIEP flap recon. My friends who had implants complained about the look of them while naked and the constant pain or discomfort, not to mention the need to replace them every 10 years. Even though I live in NJ, and presumably there are good PS in NY/NJ/PA, I went to the facility that had the best surgeons (in this procedure). So I traveled to New Orleans to the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery and Dr DellaCroce performed my flap surgery during the same surgery as my BMX. So I went to sleep and awoke with breasts that look very much like the old ones.

So yes, I am glad I did it, and glad I used my own fat. I have no pain and they look very natural, plus I got a tummy tuck and butt lift as a bonus (donor sites). Check out the pictures on their website: www.breastcenter.com

I am very happy with my results but I didn't really have a choice in the matter and so I tend to lean on the grateful side, that I had excellent care, surgeons an no complications. After I got through treatment and surgery (double mastectomy with immediate diep recon) I started to participate in private support groups on fb and started to see how many women popping up with complications such as infections after surgery, that affected their results. Then I started seeing really horrible recon jobs. The surgeon who performs this has to be tops because it's hard to redo this surgery. I hope this helps! Good luck!
