I am so frustrated with Disability... I can not work enough to support my girls and I on it, and I am afraid as heck to get off it. I am in maintenance mode now and have the energy to work and want to, but am caught in the do I take that leap or not... I am also most frustrated by my lack of ability to "save" and prepare for my girls futures on Disability. Anyones experiences success or otherwise welcome... I am so torn.

I just went on disability also, my son works for diabled workers of america since he came back from Iraq, and he told me that even on disability you can work up to 20 hours per week without loosing your benifits. Between work part time and benifits, I just might be able to make it! You won't get rich, but you can survive.

@ RebeccaPT I think it depends on your stage... stage IV is considered incurable and terminal... they qualify you real quick.... @ TracyBenderMelhem I don't want to work full time, but think I could manage to work about 32 hours a week if I found a high enough paying position to do better then I am part time and on disability. My biggest concern is disability does not allow you any flexibility.. ie if my car breaks down or its christmas, I can't work a little more to cover those events... I have to make it work on my $1040... and I can not save any more then $2,000(not that I'm close) so I can't put money away for my girls for college or a wedding(long way off) or anything like that....

What kind of disability - SS or thru your employer. My employer gave me a hard time about staying on too long. I stopped at 2 years because there was no medical reason to continue. My former employer required me to apply for a SSDI for that period and reimburse them.

@A MyBCTeam Member you are correct to some degree, where I live the max you can earn is $900 per month and you have to be very careful to make sure it's not consistant. I don't qualify for any other assistance (food stamps, etc) I have a deductable of $1184.00 PER MONTH before medicaid will pay for anything, I have to wait for 2 yrs before meicare will kick in, so needless to say I have to pay for all doctor appts, food, gas etc out of my monthly income of $1300.00. Doesn't seem fair since I've worked more than 2/3rds of my life, raised my sons alone, paid taxes, etc. I am very lucky to have very dear friends who own business and who pay some of my utilities and gas for bookkeeping sevices.
