They have plastic with tape all around the edges for this purpose. Ask for some. I cut mine diagonally and leave the bottom open and shower on the opposite side.

Tegaderm or any of the transparent dressings should work very well. The larger ones are a bit pricy, however. You might be able to practice a bit with saran wrap (or any of the films that are on the thicker side) There are adhesive tapes that adhere despite getting wet. So you could cover your Hickman(?) with wrap, and tape the edges, or have hubby do the taping.
