Need Input On Surgical Decision -- DCIS High Grade

Need Input On Surgical Decision -- DCIS High Grade

Nearly 67 years old. No family history of cancer.

Routine mammogram in May showed microcalcifications classified as suspicious. Expectation set of potential lumpectomy since suspicious area 1.5cm. Biopsy indicated high grade, comeda, hormone receptor positive. Follow up mammogram indicated 6.5cm. Discussion turned to masectomy. MRI w-contrast ordered given inconsistency. It showed 2cm. I still don't know size. Surgery scheduled for July 11 but still don't know what that surgery will… read more

Since they already removed your tumor where will they Inject the sentinnel dye into? That is why after my BMX they could not go back and test the other sentinel nodes.

Has Anyone Had A Positive Sentinel Lymph Node But Opted Not To Have The Axillary Nodes Taken?

Has Anyone Had A Positive Sentinel Lymph Node But Opted Not To Have The Axillary Nodes Taken?

My surgeon says she is going to take the axIllary nodes as well. There was no offer made to biopsy surrounding lymph nodes because “I didn’t do chemo”. BUT, my oncologist didn’t recommend chemo before surgery. Im so confused!

A MyBCTeam Member said:

Honestly - and this is only my personal opinion and probably not medically valid - if I had a positive lymph node, I would have taken chemo for my own peace of mind. Well, in the way we all want chemo… read more

Those With DCIS, Did You Have A Sentinel Node Biopsy?

Those With DCIS, Did You Have A Sentinel Node Biopsy?

DCIS stage 0, 1cm area, grade 3 ER/PR+. My surgeon is only doing the sentinel node biopsy because I requested. I also asked about MRI but he said that it wasn't needed. I did the BRCA test (negative for both). Is it usual to just do the lumpectomy and not do a node biopsy? How did you decide? (If you did?)

A MyBCTeam Member said:

DCIS Stage 0, High Grade (Level 3), ER 95%/PR 885%. Had lumpectomy, only 1/2 inch square area of DCIS. No lymph nodes removed. Asked for an Oncotype test to determine how aggressive DCIS is. Results… read more

Axillary Dissection 3 Weeks After BMX

Axillary Dissection 3 Weeks After BMX

My surgeon just called and wants to schedule another surgery to take my lymph nodes out. The BMX was done 2 weeks ago. the pathology came back and the tumor was 7.1 cm, not 2.1 like they thought. So I should never have had the Sentinnel biopsy but the Axillary Dissection. My Sentinnel node biopsy was negative.

Did You Go Through The Shot In Your Nipple(s) Before The Actual Breast Cancer Surgery?

Did You Go Through The Shot In Your Nipple(s) Before The Actual Breast Cancer Surgery?

The day before my mastectomy, I was sent to the hospital to get a shot in my left breast. The needle entered my left breast and put dye into the tumor. This August 31st of 2017 will be 6 years since surgery. This also happened to a BC Sister 10 years ago January 2017. She was in the hospital and it happened right before her surgery.

To me, this was the most inhuman thing I had to go through. The pain was so intense and last so long I actually was howling in pain.

Is this still done to women?

Mine was done when I was under anesthesia during Mastectomy. That sounds inhumane & cruel. I'm sorry they did that to you.

Does Mastectomy Always Require Lymph Node Removal (if Nodes Are Clear.) Does Lymphadema Occur If Nodes Remain? Thanks All!

Does Mastectomy Always Require Lymph Node Removal (if Nodes Are Clear.) Does Lymphadema Occur If Nodes Remain? Thanks All!

I'm deciding between lumpectomy & radiation, or mastectomy and if my lymph nodes are clear will I get lymphadema?

Thanks, @LaurieAppleyoung for the answer on lymph nodes/ lymphedema. I was told my surgeon would just take one-three (depending on where the dye travels from the cancer site.) I will pray she can… read more

Stage 0 To Stage 1 In Just 2 Weeks. How Can This Happen So Fast?

Stage 0 To Stage 1 In Just 2 Weeks. How Can This Happen So Fast?

Biopsy samples all showed DCIS. Had lumpectomy and the pathology report came back, LCIS, DCIS and IDC, Invasive ductal carcinoma. So, it went from being non invasive to invasive, in a short amount of time. They want me to have a lymph node biopsy now. Has this happened to anyone and has anyone had a lymph node biopsy? Any information or comments is appreciated.

I'm a mess. I don't know how all you women out there handle all this. After reading many of your stories way worse than my… read more

Did You Get An Arm Tattoo In The Effected Side Post Lymph Dissection? Did You Get Lymphadema?

Did You Get An Arm Tattoo In The Effected Side Post Lymph Dissection? Did You Get Lymphadema?

Question for anyone that has gotten an arm tattoo post lymph dissection on the effected side...did it cause you to develop lymphedema in that arm? I am really wanting to finish out my sleeve and am not trying to move to the other arm yet.

Please only answer if you personally have gotten one. I am looking for actual results/experiences, not opinions.

Yay for this thread! New to the group and found it googling (for the 1000th time) because I also want to finish a sleeve tat (and fix the initial) ... Two years out of chemo/radiation and 3 nodes… read more

Underarm Discomfort Following Multiple Node Removal

Underarm Discomfort Following Multiple Node Removal

Does your underarm area ever go back to feeling 'normal' again following lymph node removal? I had 19 removed during partial mastectomy in January, and sensation has finally started to come back. But I feel like a have a 'hole' under there....don't know if I'm being super-sensitive or not....RO examined me @start of radiation, no issues, but I do still have a bit of tightness on that side, which I expect is normal. Anyway, just wondering if I am simply over-babying myself.
