My counselor asked me if there was someone that you thought would be there for you every step of the way, and they, for some reason, just didn't step up to the plate when you needed them most? I have a neighbor that I thought for sure would have my back. We had known each other for years, and I have helped her with her family so many times. Picked up kids from school, took care of sick kids, babysat them for the… read more
I am just about finished my last chemo session. Yay! I will have surgery in about a month from now and still don't know if I will choose lumpectomy or mastectomy and would like to hear your stories. I am a perfect candidate for a lumpectomy as it seems the chemo has reduced the tumour to nothing. However I am nervous about local recurrence which is much lower with mastectomy. But I'm also nervous about mastectomy with reconstruction. Seems weird to have tissue… read more
HELP! Before chemo my nails were extremely strong and I was taking supplements/prenatals to help with that strength... Here I am post chemo and post radiation and my nails break at every tiny nick even though I am still taking the supplements/prenatals. Anyone have any remedies or know of something that would help with this issue? I am desparate!
My mother had breast cancer. She had the lumpectomy and radiation. She went into remission but then found another lump which turned out to be lymphoma. She had chemotherapy and was never the same after that. She developed dementia and also broke her hip.
Some of the discussions here date back a couple of years, so I thought I'd pose the question again. My surgery is 2/15. I have a 5-6 cm tumor in my right breast. I'm being told that the BS is 'comfortable doing either' surgery. The PS says I'm a 'perfect candidate for either'. He said I'd have great results either way. I already know I don't want a bilateral mastectomy. I go back and forth on the mastectomy or lumpectomy on the right. I am going to do reconstruction as… read more
I had a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction in 2014. No chemo, no radiation and no meds with a diagnosis of DCIS. Everything went as planned but for the last two years, I've been on a physical downward spiral. Reconstruction is silicone implants under the muscle. I have lost a tremendous amount of strength, as there are many movements I can no longer do because the chest muscles pull tight across the implants causing them to feel displaced. In addition, I am… read more
Had a bilateral mastectomy 14 Dec18. Lymph nodes clear. However, they want me to go on hormone therapy.. I am waiting for oncology consult. I am considered stage 1. My reconstruction begins on 11 Jan 19. I don't know what to expect. Any one go this route?
I'll be starting radiation treatments in a couple of weeks and currently have expanders filled to 350 ccs. They will be taken down to 150 ccs next week. No final decisions had been made about reconstruction, but it appears that implants have a low success rate with radiated skin. In anticipation of reconstruction and to minimize pain, I will be using My Girls moisturizers.
If you've had radiation followed by a reconstruction, what method was used and how happy are you with the… read more
