A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had a bilateral mastectomy and tissue expanders placed in December, with gel implants in June. I have had consistent pain since the beginning and it only seems to be gettin worse, not better. It hurts to hold my head up some days. Just wondering if I'm the only one?

Did Anyone With BRCA Mutation And Triple Negative Opt For A Oophrectomy And Total Hysterectomy?
A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am 35 and had triple negative BC last year. I have chosen to remove my ovaries and uterus due to BRCA 1 mutation next month. I was wondering if anyone who opted for this is receiving hormone therapy? Being triple negative, my Oncology gynecologist wants to put me on a low dose hormone to counteract menopause symptoms and to prevent Osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. My breast oncologist doesn't think this is wise because these hormones can feed breast cancer. I don't know if I should… read more

Looking For Feedback On Taxotere And Herceptin Side Effects.
A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had 3 rounds of uneventful chemo and am now 8 days post TAxotere and herceptin 4th treatment. iIt has so far been terribly demoralizing. Does it get better?...do I grow out of the side effects. Do they lift? Bone pain, joint pain, itchy skin, rash, nausea, vomiting, mouth sores, loss of appetite completely.....worried how to help myself....
huge weight loss overall....50 -60 lbs since the summer. Not looking good If I have no tastebuds suddenly.

Did Anyone Have To Pay Part Of Their Reconstruction Bill Due To Insurance Issues?
A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had a bilateral mastectomy in December with reconstruction in June. I just received a bill in the mail from my insurance company denying part of my reconstruction due to experimental mesh my plastic surgeon used. My PS told me that if they didn't use this mesh, the chance of it slipping would be high due to my thin build and my thin tissue. I did not know it was experimental, I just thought it was my only option. Now the insurance company won't cover the full cost of the surgery even though I… read more

When Can I Start Taking Out Pieces Of Gauze Under The Post Op Bra And Can I Wash Any Of The Incisions?
A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

Today is day 5 after surgery (breast reduction, lumpectomy, lymph node removal). I saw written notes that say some doctors don't want patients to shower until after the drains are removed.
I might get my drain out tomorrow. Can I shower all over then?
Meanwhile, I am sweating from so many hot days, can I take out some of the guaze material? The sweat stings everywhere! thanks, JudyE

My dr said showers are fine just don't scrub the surgical area. Water and soap running over it is fine. Also you should be changing out your gauze
