I've taken both Letrozole and Anastrozole and with both meds my side effects started at about 2 weeks. I'm on Letrozole now and have hot flashes and my lifelong insomnia has grown worse. I was on Anastrozole for about a month before it was stopped since I was starting chemo and the only side effect was hot flashes, but they were weird hot flashes. It was like being in a sauna, they were dry hot flashes, not sweaty ones and they were unnerving for me so when it was time to restart an AI I went back to the Letrozole

Hi @A MyBCTeam Member, I also started Anastrozole a week ago and so far no noticeable side effects. Fingers crossed you continue to feel good!

One week in and feeling good — that's a great sign! 🎉 Fingers crossed it stays that way. Side effects from anastrozole can vary a lot from person to person, so there's no single timeline that applies to everyone.

That said, here are some things to be aware of as you continue treatment:

- Early on: Some people notice side effects like hot flashes, joint pain, or mood changes within the first few weeks
- First year: Weight gain, if it occurs, tends to happen most during the first year of treatment
- Long-term: Bone thinning (osteoporosis) can develop gradually over time, which is why doctors monitor bone density regularly Common side effects to watch for include:

- Joint stiffness or muscle aches
- Hot flashes or night sweats
- Vaginal dryness
- Mood changes
- Weight changes

The good news is that many people tolerate anastrozole well overall. It's always worth keeping your care team updated on how you're feeling so they can help manage anything that comes up. Here's to continued smooth sailing! ⛵
