Yes, some MyBCTeam members have shared concerns about dental issues during breast cancer treatment. One member shared, "I am scared to go to the dentist because my gums are so sensitive!" — so you're definitely not alone in this.

Zometa (zoledronic acid) is a bone drug that can, in rare cases, cause a serious condition called osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). This is where jaw bone tissue breaks down. Symptoms can include:

- Jaw pain
- Loose teeth
- Infection
- Jawbone poking through the gums

While ONJ sounds scary, it's important to know it's rare — affecting about 2% of people with cancer who take a bone drug. Beyond ONJ, chemotherapy in general can cause a range of dental side effects, including:

- Gum disease (swelling, bleeding, tenderness)
- Mouth sores
- Dry mouth
- Tooth sensitivity or pain
- Increased risk of oral infections like thrush

To help protect your dental health, it's strongly recommended to see a dentist before starting treatment if possible, and to keep your dentist as part of your cancer care team throughout. Let your oncologist know about any jaw or dental symptoms right away.

I’ve been on iBrance and Femara for close to 4 years now. Breast cancer which spread to my bones. I also have heart failure - both taychardia and brachardia. Pacemaker now for the brachardia and meds for the tachardia. I’m always fatigued, have balance issues - don’t really know if the meds or the disease or both conditions cause the side effects. I keep my eye on my tumor markers which are quite low. 13 last time. How can I find out if I am Ned ?
