I had arthritis before I started on anastrozole, and started taking G/C to help prevent more joint pain. A recent study said that glucosamine may accelerate the rate of dementia. I don't have dementia, but my Dad did, and my 76 year old brother was diagnosed with Alzheimers. I stopped the G/C, but my joint pain came back intensely, and I need something to help (I guess the G/C worked!) My primary care Dr. said it was up to me if I want to go back on it. Any suggestions?

Members looking for alternatives to glucosamine and chondroitin for joint pain shared a wide range of options, including boron, tart cherry extract, fish oil, turmeric, plant-based collagen with frankincense, and going gluten-free, with several noting that reducing inflammation through diet made a noticeable difference. Many members acknowledged the concern about glucosamine's possible link to dementia progression, especially those with a family history, and encouraged sharing relevant studies with a doctor before making any changes. A recurring theme was community warmth, with members trading not just health tips but also fond memories of milkmen, glass bottles, and the joys of simpler times.

I have always washed by hand, the kids used to joke that I only used the dishwasher for canning jars (true- it helps keep them warm while I canned- lol, so that I achieved great seals!). After breaking my wrist badly ages ago, I found the OT sessions, etc. were easier if I had just finished dishes-- really helped limber up the muscles, etc.!

I went gluten free for another issue and discovered that it seriously improved my joint pain!!! I noticed a difference about six weeks into changing to gluten free and did not expect it so definitely not placebo effect. I noticed an increase in joint pain if I slip off the gluten free wagon but can usually rebalance in a few days of resuming clean eating.

I remember those things. (I remember playing with the mercury from a broken thermometer; and my sister and I had fiberglass bedspreads.) A couple of years ago, I started getting rid of plastics and painted dishes, even my beloved Corelle. Now I use plain white Corelle and French White Corning Ware casserole dishes. I store my leftovers in Milwaukee pickle jars and Red Gold salsa jars. I'm not fanatic about it, but I'm much more aware of toxic elements in everyday products.

My FIL used to get upset with my SIL because she was not a fan of anything domestic- she did it, but was always on the hunt for some hack to make it all faster/easier. To her credit, she never pretended otherwise- lol! I will always remember when her hubs (my husband's brother) asked when she would be doing laundry- because he was wearing his last pair of clean underwear- her response? Whose fault is that? You know where Walmart is- lol! Apparently she only did laundry on specific days, and his calculations of clean stock just was not cutting it- lol!

@Susan196-can’t hurt to try. Like I said, I didn’t expect the dramatic change but sure enjoy it though. Bottom line gluten can cause inflammation and that is what you are trying to minimize. Other things that can cause inflammation are processed foods, sugar (I do have a sweet tooth), alcohol (I rarely drink), red meat and stress. Since I like my sweets (although I have cut back), don’t really drink or have red meat, my options were to reduce stress (life has a way of laughing at that one) and going gluten free. My daughter was already GF due to her own issues so it was not difficult for me to start since I already knew what to look for.
If you like to bake, try www.theloopywhisk.com. I make the French baguettes, dinner rolls, pie crusts, cakes, cinnamon rolls, etc that come out soft and delicious every time!!! While slightly denser than regular bread, it is far superior to store bought gluten free items that can be drier than dry. My daughter got me the person’s cookbook as well but try the website first.
