I’m thinking, if my hair is going to fall out anyway, what’s the point of cold capping? About 50% of my hair is gone now. Is it still worth continuing? I’m so confused.
I am an oncology nurse. I have not seen much work for AC. I had one patient use Penguin capping, she lost most of her hair.
The good news is, it does grow back.
Cold capping is expensive and not covered by insurance. This organization was mentioned in a Knittedknockers.org news letter article -they offer financial assistance.

Hi Chloe,
I did Penguin Cold Capping through my 6 rounds of treatment at 21 day intervals.
T/C chemo.
I was ready to quit after the 1st but found it easier once I knew what to expect.
I have fine, (lots of hair) shoulder length hair and I’m very pleased with my results, little to no shedding throughout treatment.
I followed the hair care to a T (limited cold water shampoos) no product or hair dryer and used the WET comb & brush.
I wore the cap for 9 hours the day of each treatment, changing it every 25 minutes. The first 2 caps were tough going, each time, after that my head was frozen so they were not too uncomfortable. My son did the caps for me…& he insisted they needed to be tight. My sister & friend tried practicing with the cap but could never get it to sit as well as he could.
I finished Chemo 7/2 and have noticed a lot more shedding in the last 3 weeks. Overall it appears to be within the normal range. My eyebrows are growing back as is leg hair so I expect the the head hair cycle is returning to normal.
I am on AC treatment.
The goal of cold capping is to keep up to 50% of your hair. It can work well some regimens and not at all others. The Paxman site will allow you put your regimen in it will give an estimate using their cold capping.
Where I work, I have seen good results for Taxol. So so for TCHP and Taxotere Cytoxan. Have not seen it work for AC.
I am told there are Facebook groups on cold capping. Those ladies are probably the experts.
