How do you find your peace?

Living with metastatic breast cancer, there are times when uncertainty quietly takes over. Tomorrow is my three-month CT scan. I do my best not to let worries about tomorrow take up too much of today, but scan anxiety is real.

I find peace at our lake. Sometimes I sit quietly by the water, practice yoga, paddle on my SUP, or just notice the stillness around me. The lake helps me return to the present. It reminds me that right now, I am here, I am living, and I am… read more

Members found comfort and connection in this heartfelt thread about finding peace while living with metastatic breast cancer and facing scan anxiety. Several members shared that spending time in nature, whether by a lake, in a garden, or on nature walks, helps them return to the present moment, along with gardening, crafting, cooking, volunteering, and surrounding themselves with family. A recurring theme was that peace comes not from removing fear, but from choosing where to place your energy, with faith, gratitude, and small daily joys serving as gentle anchors.

Scanxiety is so real, and so many others living with metastatic breast cancer know exactly what tomorrow feels like for you. You are not alone in this. Others in the community have found their own anchors too. Here are some of the ways people come back to themselves when uncertainty gets loud:

- Movement β€” yoga, walking, tai chi, anything that brings you into your body and breath
- Mindfulness and meditation β€” even just noticing the world around you, like one MyBCTeam member who described sitting outside on a chilly morning with coffee, just listening to nature
- Leaning on people β€” friends, family, caregivers, or others who truly get it
- Creative outlets β€” quilting, writing, anything that shifts focus and brings joy
- Breathing exercises β€” slow, counted breaths to quiet the nervous system
- Talking it out β€” with a therapist, a loved one, or others who understand the journey As one MyBCTeam member wisely put it, the fear of recurrence lives with all of us β€” but with time and practice, we learn not to let it take up too much space.

Wishing you calm water and good news tomorrow. πŸ’™

Choosing daily thankfulness and joy for the moment is what helps me with 3 month scans. I pray and know that I have a heavenly Father as a shelter from fear.
