After having a routine colonoscopy my doctor told me that I now have diverticulitis
Agree, there are no stupid questions- outside the box thinking is what moves things along! I have wondered along the same lines, as I have Crohns, Perhaps, having an auto-immune condition, while not being a cause, researchers may find a correlation. Everyone always has some cancer cells circulating in their systems, but their immune system recognizes these and destroys them. Our systems have failed in that regard. For me, with Crohns, it remits and relapses. But researches do not know what triggers those changes. The same happens with MS, remissions and relapses. How and why do we have cancer remissions, and then active cancer again years- even decades later? Perhaps, one day, researchers will find something going on with these auto-immune conditions that also provides some insight into cancer, too! Got my fingers crossed! Hugs!
I was diagnosed with diverticulosis and ibs-c before I was diagnosed with BC. I too wonder about possible connections between gut and our overall immune system.
There are no stupid questions — curiosity about your health is always a good thing!
There is no known direct correlation between diverticulitis and breast cancer. They are separate conditions that affect different parts of the body and don't share a well-established link in current medical research.

Also the diverticulitis diagnosis was a surprise to you, most likely.
Many have no symptoms.
