I had lumpectomy and 5 lymph nodes removed. The swelling is not in my arm but under my arm and mostly in my left breast. What kind of compression garments are there for this?

Members dealing with breast and underarm lymphedema after lumpectomy came together to share their struggles and hard-won tips around compression garments and therapy options. Several members stressed the importance of getting a referral to a lymphedema specialist or physical therapist, noting that compression sleeves must be properly fitted to avoid making swelling worse, and that massage therapy and ultrasound treatment helped with drainage and scar tissue. A recurring theme was frustration with inconsistent post-surgery follow-up care, paired with strong encouragement to stay proactive, advocate for referrals, and lean on each other for support.

It provides warmth and healing to tissues and may break up some scar tissue too.

It’s so hard when you can’t get an appointment and you don’t know where to start. I guess I’m where you were and I don’t want it to get worse. The chip bag was irritating and almost painful in my bra so I haven’t been using it. Fortunately, I got once a week appointments for three weeks so I have another appointment Monday.

@A MyBCTeam Member I am so sorry to hear that you are now dealing with this after feeling a little better. This is so tough. It’s a hard condition to manage for sure. Are you wearing a compression sleeve? I feel relief when I have it on. I also do a cold sleeve and it provides relief when I’m really sore. My OT includes massages and they have helped so much for the drainage. I am trying to wrap my head around that this condition is for life😭 I hope yours get better, soon. We will get through this! Hugs!
