After much consideration I have decided that I would proceed with a double mastectomy with reconstruction instead of a single
I am concerned that due to the density of my breast tissue, it may be more difficult to effectively monitor and detect any future issues through imaging. This has played a significant role in my decision. I haven’t stopped crying since yesterday, I can’t believe I will be losing my breasts that I love so much, my femininity will be gone. You’re not less woman if you don’t have breasts. Seriously, you’re much more than that. Congrats on your decision!
Amen, put everything in God's hands.
Suzette4, I also had radioactive dye injected the day before and I had to strip the drainage tube myself. At first it was difficult but it became easier. I used an alchohol wipe to help me glide down the tube. My surgeon sent me a video to walk me through it. Don't be intimidated by it. You'll be able to do it.
@A MyBCTeam Member once you're wrapped the Dr will probably put this pink bra on you. It has loops on the sides that you can clip your drains to. I slept in a big C shaped pregnancy pillow with my regular pillow for my head. I was upright just enough and the sides were tucked into me enough that I'd rest the drains on. It's was comfortable to me but you do you mama 💕. Good luck with everything, God bless you and recover well 🙏😁
Hi Suzette4,
I empathize with how you are feeling. Virtual hug. You will get through this.
Clothes that zip or open in the front is a must.
You will most likely have two drainage bulbs so you will need a place to carry them. I used the pockets of my robe turned inside out and a safety pin to hold it( I only had one tube).
I had a lanyard that hung around my neck with pockets to hold the drain for when I showered.
I also had a protective pillow for my chest when in the car and also for sleeping. It helped me to have a small pillow below my arm to prevent my arm rubbing against the chest area.
A recliner or bed wedge can help with sleeping.
Food prep: I had meals that I cooked and froze so that helped.
Personally I physically recovered quicker from the mastectomy than I did with the lumpectomy / breast reduction.
Good positive energy coming your way.
