Is it normal for my breast to feel rock hard during radiation therapy after lumpectomy?
Yes, this can happen and you're not alone. Firmness and swelling in the breast during radiation therapy is a common experience. The radiation is designed to destroy cancer cells, but it can also affect healthy tissue, leading to changes Show Full Answer
Mine got hard, especially around tumor sight. I go to a PT and she recommended gentle lymphatic massage. Some days it was rock hard, other days softer and more "normal". It varies and after a little over a week from finishing treatment it's softer (despite some lymphedema) and the hardness at the tumor site is getting smaller. Gentle massage with lotion a few times a day helped immensely. My issue now is a bruised feeling all over which is most likely lymphedema related. Stay positive, drink lots of water, herbal teas, electrolyte drinks... And rest when you can. Sending lots of positive thoughts and💕💕
